In an era where new construction in Eastside places little value or time on the garage, this builder gives you a typical modern stackable home that is loathed by some — BUT — you also get a garage that can hold four cars with room to spare.

He even spent four of his 25 allowed images for the listing for the garage alone. No one does this! Usually someone uses ten on the kitchen alone and I often see zero on the garage. And a disturbing amount of new construction in King County don’t even give you a garage at all, for 7 figures :|

Anyway, just thought I’d look for some positivity out there. I should probably disclaim that I know the builder, but super nice guy. Drives an ‘05 Tacoma and incredibly down to earth.

I’ve been looking at houses this week (rentals) and they’ll put in ten pictures of nearby parks but not a single garage shot. Sickening

Say what you want about how bland they are, but I swear 99% of first generation RX’s are still on the road and I see more of them than just about any other car that age. Of course it helps that they were one of the first luxury crossovers and since those are popular now owners don’t need to ditch them to buy one, but that’s a testament to reliability, build quality, including enough features to make it still feel sufficiently modern 20 years later and owners who like them enough to take keep them on the road.

Are you staying in Eastside, I presume?

There’s a really ugly NW modern house in my old neighborhood in Bellevue that had a similar garage configuration deep under the house (and a bit underground). At least 4 cars would fit in there. They were also seriously into buying cars, I saw a ton of different things there, from a Jeep seemingly setup for overland trips through at least a couple sports cars (never got a good look at all of them as they tended to live in the garage, one I believe was some variant of a 911 with a fixed spoiler, and there was something really short/exotic looking, like a Lotus or Ferrari or something) and a Porsche Panamera. There were other random vehicles that were less interesting there periodically as well...

There are a bunch of houses in an adjacent development that have tandem garages, which I wouldn’t entertain, but I can see why you might accept it if you only had one car or mostly used the garage for storage like most people.

I’m more impressed that they have cars in the garage at all, which is why I suspect so few garages end up in house photos - it’s used like an attached self storage unit. Who could/would want to take a picture of one of those? There’s this show that shows what is inside an average storage unit and that’s what most garages look like.

that’s cool - there are new homes in the area that are not as nice as that, (and only have a two car garage,) that are selling for over a mil now...

Trying to. I really want a place in Carnation or Duvall, but there isn’t much available. Renton has good prices for nice apartments... But if I have to deal with that commute I at least want a garage, which is apparently unfindable.

Every once in a while a nice renovated older rambler shows up in Bellevue or redmond that’s usually way under the normal price, rented out by an older couple. I’m holding out for one of those. I wish I could find a roommate who wanted more than just the absolute cheapest apartment around. That would open up so many other options

Duvall disappoints me with their pricing, which was getting out of control back in 2015. Now it’s basically not an option.

Have you considered buying? I’m telling ya, owning ain’t so bad (or being owned, depending on your perspective )

Agreed. Duvall might as well just be downtown Woodinville now. That and Fall City/Snoqualmie! So much for being the far out cheap area.

I’d like to but to make it work financially would be difficult. Plus I’m unsure where I’ll be career wise in the next few years. Right now I just want a moderately safe area for my cars that doesn’t take too large a percentage of my monthly income, while not being a complete shit hole AND preferably having a bit more space than my 1 bdrm/1 bath. Which... I guess is kind of a lot to ask for around here!

One of our new hires came from Arizona. He was paying $390 a month for his apartment, utilities included. Worked three days a week, spent the rest of the time on roadtrips

Sure, if you like Arizona. Which apparently many many many people do. Speaking for myself, NO.

Admittedly manual labor in 110° weather didn’t sound great
